Bipasha Basu (born January 7, 1979) is an Indian actress, former fashion model, and fitness enthusiast who has predominantly worked in Hindi cinema, alongside appearances in Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and English films. Born in New Delhi and raised in Kolkata, West Bengal, she initially pursued a highly successful career as a fashion model after winning the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest in 1996. After turning down early film offers, she made her acting debut portraying a negative character in Abbas-Mustan's suspense thriller *Ajnabee* (2001). Her performance won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. In 2002, Basu achieved massive mainstream success and firmly established her status as a leading lady and national sex symbol with her breakthrough role in Vikram Bhatt's blockbuster horror film *Raaz*, earning a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress.
